On 21st February 1878, Mirra Alfassa, known to the world as The Mother, was born in Paris, France. From her earliest years, she was spiritually conscious, drawn to the divine, and dedicated to the path of inner transformation. Her life was a living testament to the possibility of manifesting higher consciousness in the material world.
“Since the beginning of the earth wherever and whenever there was the possibility of manifesting a ray of consciousness, I was there.”
—The Mother, 14 March 1952
The Mother: Divine Shakti in Action
Sri Aurobindo described The Mother as a force of Divine Shakti, present in the universe, the individual, and beyond both. While she worked in her physical body, her consciousness encompassed all aspects of the divine, striving to bring something yet unexpressed into our material world. She dedicated her life to transforming human existence, offering a pathway to higher consciousness.
The Mother’s teachings remind us that spiritual progress is not separate from our daily lives. By remaining open to her force, rejecting what is contrary to her will, and aligning our actions with her guidance, we invite transformation and knowledge into our own lives. As Sri Aurobindo said:
“You have only to aspire, to keep yourself open to the Mother, to reject all that is contrary to her will and to let her work in you — doing also all your work for her and in the faith that it is through her force that you can do it.”
A Day to Reflect and Aspire
Her birthday is not merely a commemoration of her birth but an opportunity to reconnect with her teachings, to open ourselves to her transformative force, and to aspire toward higher consciousness in our own lives. It is a reminder that the divine is always at work within us and around us, ready to guide and uplift those who are willing to receive it.
As we celebrate The Mother this 21st February, let us honour her vision, her spiritual dedication, and her unwavering commitment to bringing the divine into the heart of human life. In embracing her teachings, we take a step closer to realising the potential she has always sought to manifest in the world.
